Why blog? There are so many bloggers out there, so why would anyone take the time to read mine?
Why blog? Why am I being tortured with writing . . . and with writing on-line?
Why blog? What do I have to contribute?
These are excellent questions, especially since I framed them myself! Seriously, I have seen and heard many versions of these same questions. Here are my thoughts, for what it's worth . . .
1. Why NOT blog?! Why is your opinion any less worthy than the next person's? The beauty of the technology is that it's based on community trust and ownership. Someone will care what you have to say, even if it's only your teacher.
2. Why not BLOG?! Writing or journaling can enhance your understanding of any subject, music theory included. If you can write down what you know, and frame questions about things you don't know, then you are learning and comprehending. Plus, journaling will help keep you accountable for your practice and study efforts. There will be weeks that you look back on your journal and see big holes. You can then tweak your plan. There will be weeks that you look back on your journal and find that you've made progress in specific areas. You can then pat yourself on the back!
3. Why NOT blog?! Anyone who is taking the time to study at the college level should have the ability to share their growing expertise with others. Anyone who's ever taken the time to explain something to someone can blog something useful for someone else.
Here are some posts (1 and 2) regarding the educational use/purpose of blogging. They aren't terribly eloquent, but they are practical.
